The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. President Putin is alleged to have committed war crimes involving the illegal deportation of children in February 2022. Putin's administration allegedly deported children from Ukraine territories to Russia. Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, the presidential commissioner of children's rights also came under fire for committing similar crimes against children. The Court believes that Putin was directly involved in the deportation of minors due to his refusal to stop the process. Officials from Moscow have released information disregarding the importance of the rulings of the International Criminal Court in Russian society, saying that they did not have to comply and subsequently denied the allegations brought against President Putin. Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and as such, Russia bears no obligations under that authority. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba commended the ICC for issuing the arrest warrant, saying, "wheels of justice are turning." In an unrelated matter, President Putin is slated to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow next week to discuss, "comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.”
